The Pixie bob and Savannah are two beautiful wild distinctive breeds of cat, quite rare in Britain today.
The coat of the Savannah is similar to the Serval with stunning spots and bars, on a basecoat colour of warm golden orange to cool silver.
Where the Savannah differ's from the African Serval is in its friendly sociable temperament.
Despite their exotic appearance Savannah's do not differ greatly with regards to their care and behavior from the domestic cat.
The size, personality and temperament of the Savannah depends on
F1 Savannah cats ( the first generation cross of a serval and domestic cat) will be standoffish with most people, other than a few people with close regular contact. However they will not be aggressive.
Where as later generations such as F3 Savannahs ( three generation from the Serval) will bond very well with their families and will be social with strangers.
Combining that wild look with a sweet personality.
The Savannah cat is a hybrid, a cross between the African Serval and a domestic cat. The Savannah has the beautiful exotic wild look of the African Serval, a tall lean appearance with its long legs and neck, smaller head in proportion to the rest of its body with large ears, which have ocelli (thumbprints) on the back of. click here to go to breed standard
They are a very quiet cat and sometimes chirp or chitter. Very intelligent and trainable many will play fetch, walk on a harness if trained early. They are loyal cats with a doglike devotion that make them great companions. An adaptable breed which gets along well with other animals.
Pixie bob cats are recognized by TICA (The International cat Association) and have Championship status.
They are the only breed permitted to be polydactyl in their breed standard.
DNA evidence does not support the hybrid theory. The legend came about because the founder of the breed Carol Ann Brewer had taken her foundation cats out of the foothills and mountainous regions of the Cascade Mountains, these cats having a resemblance to the American Bob cat. In this geographical area where the North American Bob cat roams, barn kittens are born each spring with a wild appearance . It seemed possible that the Bob cat could mate with the feral cats. This is the legendary ancestry of the Pixie bob.
Pixie bobs have wild compressed faces reminiscent of the Bob cat. They are a muscular heavy boned cat, with lynx tipping on the ears, a high percentage are polydactyly cats, (more than the usual number of toes.)
The ideal Pixie bob tail is Bob cat length between two and six inches, although in a litter of kittens you get both long tails and short tails. In fact, Pixie herself the founding cat of the breed had a long tail, we get a variety of tails from virtually none, to full length bushy tail.
